Hi there,
Today was inspiring! Thank you for your questions, your insights, your stories and your energy! You epitomize the life-long learner and it is a privilege to work with you.
It's a long time before December 3rd when we meet again for Session 2. And, we feel it is definitely worthwhile to continue our professional dialogue. So, I invite you to do so by responding to this Critical Literacy learning strategy for making meaning. It's called One Question, One Connection, One Observation and One Surprise. Reflect on today's activities and discussions then please post your response.
I look forward to your responses
Welcome! This is a professional learning blog strictly for the purpose of dialogue between the participants in the Literacy Professional Learning Series ~ the 21st Century Learner held at the York Catholic District School Board.
Who is the 21st Century Learner?
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

About Me
- Catherine Furfaro
- I have been a teacher with the York Catholic DSB for 25 years and have taught just about every grade from JK to Gr. 12. Currently, I am a Consultant for Literacy, Grades 7-12. Reading and Writing have been like air and water to me my entire life. Cuddle up and read time with my children was always sacred time; no phone calls were taken, no interruptions were allowed. My Parents passed down to me the joy of sharing stories. I hope you'll enjoy the ones I write here.

Can we teach creativity?
Yes!
By teaching divergent thinking (analogies, metaphors, and visual thinking). The minute you get people to think visually (draw pictures or move, rather than sit and write points) something different happens in the room.
“No problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it. We need to see the world anew.” (Albert Einstein)
